When you are putting together you new air conditioning installation consider the quality of the air filter you use. Most people know, or will learn that HEPA rated filters are the highest quality, but many people do not know that they are not necessarily the most efficient for every home. Remember that HEPA filters are so dense that a typical home’s air conditioning system will have a hard time pushing air through it, but less expensive MERV filters will eventually filter just as many air pollutants as a HEPA filter once the air in the home has been recycled a few times.
Air Conditioning System Options
While you may think that one air conditioning system is the same as the next, there are actually some significant differences between the various types. When you’re making your selection, of course, you want to make sure that the system you get is big enough for your home, but not too big that it unnecessarily inflates your energy bills.
Ductless Split & Mini–Split Air Conditioners
If you have a relatively small area to cool, or if space is really at a premium in your Orange County home, you may want to consider a ductless split system type of air conditioner. Mini–splits consist of an outdoor compressor and indoor units that can be mounted on the walls of individual rooms.
The indoor units are linked to the compressor by refrigerant lines that supply them with coolant. This is a much less invasive connection than the ductwork that other larger types of air conditioning systems utilize. This makes split systems able to fit into smaller spaces that many traditional types of air conditioners.
Also, the individual indoor units of mini–splits each have their own thermostat, allowing you greater control over the temperature in each particular room of your house. This gives different members of your household the ability to set the temperature they prefer for themselves, and it can also save you some money because it means that you don’t have to cool your entire house at once.
Packaged Air Conditioning Systems
While there are a lot of advantages to mini–split air conditioning systems, they aren’t the best option for larger homes in the Orange County area. If you have a lot of square feet to cool, you’ll probably be better off with a packaged air conditioner.
These also include an outdoor compressor and indoor vents, but these components are connected to each other by ductwork that the cooled air travels through to reach the various rooms of your house. Packaged systems provide powerful cooling and are an excellent option, particularly if you already have ductwork in place.
Central Air Conditioning
A central air conditioning system is the largest type of system available. Of course, central air conditioning systems come in a variety of sizes, but their main purpose is to cool larger commercial and residential spaces. For instance, a central air conditioner is ideal for a mall, apartment building or office complex.
