Learn about one of the most important maintenance procedures you can do to protect your furnace.
Even in California, the demand on furnaces during the winter can cause a lot of problems. You probably don’t want your furnace to break down on you in the middle of one of the coldest months of the year, so it’s a good idea to keep a close eye on your system for any problems that may develop.
If your boiler makes a deep rumbling noise while it’s operating, don’t ignore it. That noise is a symptom of a problem called kettling, which is a serious threat to the system. If the problem isn’t dealt with quickly, it can cause quite a bit of damage to the boiler.
Your furnace is going to be put under more and more strain in the coming months. As the temperature outside continues to drop and you use the system for longer hours, there’s going to be an ever-increasing possibility of something going wrong.
We’re not into the coldest part of the year yet, but we’re not far off either. Chances are, you’ve been using your furnace more and more often over the last couple of weeks. If you haven’t had your system professionally checked yet, you should do that as soon as possible.
Boilers can last a pretty long time, longer even than most other heating system types. This is because they have fewer moving parts, which means that there are fewer ways for things to break down.
You can make your furnace last quite a while, provided you take proper care of it. However, no amount of repairs and maintenance can make a system last forever.
You’re probably already taking steps to get your home ready for the heating season, like schedule heating maintenance and such. That’s all well and good, but it’s not the only thing you can do.
