Winter is upon us, and now is the time to make sure that your furnace is in good shape. If your furnace isn’t up to the task of keeping your home warm for another winter, it’s time to replace it. No one wants to have their furnace break down on them in the middle of winter. So, it’s best to replace it now before the weather gets really cold. Age
Furnaces are only manufactured to last around 15-20 years. After that point, it becomes increasingly expensive to operate them. The accumulation of wear and tear causes the furnace to run into an increasing number of serious issues, resulting in mounting repair and operating costs. If your furnace is older than 20 years, you should seriously consider replacing it.
Repair
As mentioned above, the accumulation of wear and tear causes various parts of the system to start failing after a while. Because each part in the system wears down a bit differently, it’s possible for groups of them to fail within a few weeks of each other. A furnace shouldn’t need repairs more than once every couple of years. If you have to repair your furnace every few weeks, it’s definitely time to replace it.
Efficiency
The older a furnace is, the less efficient it will be. This will force the system to stay on for longer and longer periods of time, which will result in higher operating costs. If your furnace is costing more and more to operate, you should consider replacing it.
