Filtration Services in Orange County by Saddleback
If a member of your family suffers from allergies or asthma, one of the most effective ways to help minimize those symptoms is with a high quality air filtration system. The right air filter can remove most common allergens such as pet dander, pollen and dust. While most homes have filtration systems already installed, a new one with a high MERV rating can be an effective line of defense against allergy–inflaming contaminants.
If you would like to learn more about filtration systems available for homes in Irvine and how it can benefit the members of your family, call Saddleback Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning today. We can discuss with you your filtration options and ensure you have the system you want to meet the needs of your family members.
There are multiple forms of filtration, all designed to remove different types and sizes of contaminants. The most common type of filter is a media filter. Also called passive filters or mechanical filters, these systems simply capture allergens as air passes through them. They do this with a porous medium like carbon that allows air to pass but not the pollutants in the air.
Media filters come in various sizes and levels of efficiency with more effective filters carrying higher MERV ratings. The highest rated media filters are HEPA filters and can remove 99.9% of all contaminants as small as 0.3 microns. In effect, they can capture nearly anything that passes through them save exhaust fumes, smoke and bacteria or viruses.
Electronic Filtration for Orange County
The second type of common filtration systems is electronic filtration. This is an active filtration system that uses electricity to ionize the air as it passes through the device and remove particles that carry a different charge than air. This works exceptionally well for small particles that would not otherwise be captured by a media filter like fumes, exhaust and smoke. However, it is not as effective for larger allergens like dust and pollen and therefore should be used primarily as a supplement to a media filter.
There are combination filters on the market as well that will remove both larger and smaller particles and do so without the need for a supplemental system. These are useful in households with children or elderly family members suffering from extreme respiratory distress such as asthma.
